The Assistant Director for leader development administers and executes objectives and key results ( OKR) of the assigned program(s). In addition to program administrative functions, this position is responsible for program design, development and delivery of interactive workshops and /or group coaching modules. Position conducts assessment of leadership capability using a variety of in-depth psychological assessments. This role may supervise vendors and / or student workers.

This position performs the functions of the Assistant Director for Coaching in his/her absence.

Please Note: This position is term limited with an initial three year appointment, with the possibility of an extension contingent upon the incumbent's performance and needs of the institute.

 

Internal / External Contacts

INTERNAL: university leadership, students, faculty, and administrative staff across campus

EXTERNAL: civic and business leaders, advisory board members, industry partners, foundations, individual donors, alumni, leader development professionals and faculty from other schools.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to move about the campus easily.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and set up materials (
  • Must have the ability to work at a computer for several hours at a time.

Working Conditions

  • May be required to work extended hours in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Occasional travel might be required.

Job Duty Name: Essential Functions 
Description of Job Duty:

  • Develop, implement, administer, and evaluate programs by: conducting research activities within the program; analyzing data, creating reports, reviewing trends, and making program improvement recommendations.
  • Develop and implement strategies related to outreach, events, communications, development, partnerships and fundraising / funding.
  • Create short term and long term plans to achieve mission and objectives for the program.
  • Devise and manage financial and budgetary plans for the program(s), approve and monitor expenditures.
  • For academic programs, may be responsible for graduate student recruitment and admissions, student records, curriculum support, coordinating the accreditation process, managing scholarships and fellowships, and monitoring student progress.
  • May be responsible for grant preparation and submission or research administration.
  • May teach a course, seminar or workshop.
  • May supervise small staff (up to three full time staff).

Requirements

Education Required: Bachelor's Degree

 

Substitution for Education Requirement

Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement.

Education Preferred:

  • Degrees in organization development, industrial organizational psychology, organizational psychology, organizational behavior or related discipline are strongly preferred.
  • PhD degree is desirable.

Experience Required: 5 years

 

Type of Experience:

Work experience and at least three years of experience developing leaders in the private, public, or educational sectors.

Substitution for Experience Requirement

May substitute additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis in lieu of the experience requirement.

Experience Preferred

Seven years related work experience in developing leaders in the private, public, or educational sectors.

License/Certification Required

ACCPCC, or MCC level certification from the International Coach Federation or currently in process of completing to be certified within 12 months.

License/Certification Preferred

Korn Ferry Leadership Architect TM ( KFLA) certification, Emotional Intelligence certification, Hogan Assessments certification, instructional design certification, facilitation certification.

Skills Required

  • Ability to design, develop, and deliver leader development programs.
  • Ability to develop and initiate new strategies.
  • Advanced problem solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
  • Adept at problem solving, creating contingency plans and handling issues when necessary.
  • Strong client service orientation and attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop complex or multiple program partnerships and funding sources.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.
  • Knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.

Skills Preferred

  • Experience teaching in an ICF-accredited coach certification program.
  • Experience with assessment of leadership capability using a variety of in-depth psychological assessments.
  • Experience with one-on-one and small group leadership coaching to develop core leadership skills and overcome "self-limiting" beliefs.
  • Experience with delivering high impact leader development programs to small groups, on a variety of topics such social influence and conflict management.
  • Experience in talent strategy consulting, competency strategy, competency modeling and competency implementation.
  • Project management experience with accountability for development of project documentation to facilitate sharing of project outcomes and best practices.
