What's the role?

This team in Talent Management oversees the talent pipeline which includes leadership development, diversity & inclusion and recruiting for Northwestern Mutual’s career agency distribution system, i.e. our financial representatives.

 

Leadership Development is responsible for programs in support of the national distribution system in efforts to grow new, high-potential, and tenured leaders.

You’ll be part of a team accountable for the design, development, and implementation of all field leadership programming and experiences to enable leaders to achieve success in their current leadership role and prepare them for advancement to higher levels of leadership in the future. 

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Facilitate collaborative process with field and home office stakeholders, subject matter experts, target audience members, and leaders to identify critical outcomes and measurement strategy
  • Develop and source content, facilitate formal learning, and support on-the-job leader development
  • Work effectively with field leaders and home office leadership to establish and sustain an effective talent-multiplier culture
  • Establish leadership metrics and leverage them to report business results
  • Maintain currency of industry-wide innovations and thought leaders and advise on industry-wide best practices
  • Manage vendors and contingent staff both directly and indirectly who support leadership programs

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis on Instructional Systems, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Human Resources or relevant experience.
  • Expertise in contemporary adult learning principles and models, curriculum construction, and facilitation with demonstrated ability to be creative, flexible, and innovative in the design of experiential learning
  • Experience developing leaders throughout the leadership and talent pipeline (aspiring new leaders to C-suite), including exposure and experience with leadership development content, technology, and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently formulate an idea by leveraging strong business knowledge and acumen, outside-in perspective and an enterprise mindset.
  • Strong consulting skills; including the ability to lead, direct, negotiate and influence with and without direct authority at all levels of the organization; strong ability to manage stakeholders
  • Experience establishing measurement of leadership development program success
