The College of Education (COE) at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Adult Education/Human Resource Development in the Learning, Technology and Leadership Education (LTLE) Department. This is a tenure-track position beginning August 2019. The successful candidate will serve on a team of highly creative professionals and will be responsible for carrying a 3-3 load consisting of 1 undergraduate and 2 graduate courses per semester relating to the foundations, practices, theory, research and innovations of the field. Academic programs include the undergraduate Human Resource Development (HRD) Minor and graduate Master of Science in Education in Adult Education/Human Resource Development (AHRD). Students come from and move into business, industry, government, consulting, education and higher education environments upon graduation from the program.

The successful candidate will have teaching experience in higher education, leadership experience in education, business, industry, government and/or consulting and experience with designing and teaching in online, hybrid and face-to-face environments in higher education, corporate, and/or government settings. Preferred candidates will have advanced knowledge and skills relating to program evaluation, research methods, international human resource development and evidence of involvement in professional organizations such as AHRD, ATD, eLearning Guild, ODNetwork, ISPI, AERA, etc.

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will supervise graduate research in the areas of adult education and human resource development; maintain a program of scholarly research and publication; provide department, college, university, community and professional service; and demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.

Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in Adult Education/Human Resource Development or a closely related specialization. Experience teaching in higher education, work with both traditional and nontraditional students, and a record of scholarly activity is preferred.

The AHRD program is part of Learning, Technology & Leadership Education in the College of Education at James Madison University. In addition to LTLE, the College of Education houses 4 other departments: Early, Elementary and Reading Education, Educational Foundations and Exceptionalities (EFEX), Middle, Secondary and Math Education (MSME), and Military Science. Required Qualifications:

- Earned doctorate in Adult Education/Human Resource Development, or a closely related field, by the time of employment

- Experience in the design, delivery, implementation and evaluation of technology-based training programs within industry and higher education teaching experience

- Ability to work well with traditional and non-traditional students

- Effective communication and team collaboration skills, with a demonstrated commitment to collegiality

- Evidence of teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and professional service

- Ability to take the initiative, innovate, advocate, and provide leadership

 

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience designing and teaching online courses

- Experience designing e-learning programs

- Experience advising college students

- Experience working with diverse learner populations

- Experience effectively teaching, learning, and innovating with technology

- Experiences that reflect a sensitivity to, and advocacy for, the needs of diverse learners
