Job Title: Career Navigator (Administrative Officer III)

Summary: This position is responsible for creating, developing, implementing and overseeing all aspects of the Career Development Program for the Aviation Department at Charlotte Douglas International Airport which includes a diverse workforce of more than 600 employees occupying over 100 different job classifications (e.g. laborers, skilled trades, paraprofessional and professional occupations).  Aviation’s Career Development Program contributes to an environment where employees can thrive, and require the ability to have empathic, future orientated talent conversations with Aviation employees at all levels.  Aviation’s Career Development Program, includes, but not limited to: Career Coaching, Job Shadowing, Mentorship, and Succession Planning.  Career coaching to prepare employees for their next career opportunity includes knowing all Aviation career opportunities, City and Aviation professional development and education opportunities, and the proper use of various assessment tools.  This position will require public speaking when communicating program opportunities at employee meetings and delivering required training to program participants.  Work is performed under general supervision and performance is evaluated on the basis of program flow and success, feedback and results obtained.  Work requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment and initiative.  Must be able to meet strict deadlines and simultaneously handle multiple competing and demanding tasks.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the Job Shadowing Program.  Communicate program specifics to employees, supervisors, and leadership.  Coordinate the logistics and goals of the various job shadowing program levels to the host (shadowee) and guest (shadower). Monitor, evaluate, and maintain records related to the program.  Create, maintain, and report metrics to show program return on investment.
  • Develop and manage the Mentorship Programs.  Communicate program specifics to employees, supervisors, and leadership.  Deliver training to Mentors and Mentees, and maintain training materials.  Monitor, evaluate, and maintain records related to the program.  Create, maintain, and report metrics to show program return on investment.
  • Manage tuition assistance programs (reimbursement and pre-paid).  Analyze and intimate changes to improve process.  Create and maintain dashboards for ROI.
  • Plan and coordinate the Annual Aviation Employee Career Fair. Identify and coordinate the event with internal staff and external partners.  Coordinate volunteers and logistics.  Monitor event details to ensure a supportive and informative environment for employees.
  • Serve as the liaison between the employees and supervisors to provide effective and streamlined career development plans through the use a comprehensive career coaching model.
  • Build knowledge in career and succession planning in order to provide specialist advice and support with regards to talent assessments, knowledge management, and succession planning.
  • Documents program processes and information for knowledge transfer purposes.

Requirements

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to a variety of environments, and take responsibility and accountability for projects is required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to speak effectively in front of large groups to deliver speeches, presentations and answer questions.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask, and to positively contribute in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, and deal professionally and courteously all Aviation Staff. 
  • Ability to coordinate the work of multiple work groups within the department and other organizational units; identify problems, solutions and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to design and coordinate effective and comprehensive programs with metrics for evaluation.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound business decisions and take initiative.
  • Detailed oriented and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and handle multiple and simultaneous demanding tasks.
  • Primarily works office hours Monday through Friday, but schedule also requires some evenings and weekends due to scheduled meetings with employees on various shifts.  Schedule subject to irregular hours, overtime and emergency calls back to work.
  • Valid driver’s license in state of residency and ability to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit.
  • Ability to pass a background check in advance of start date required.  Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree plus three years of experience.  Major course work in Career Coaching, Organizational Development, or career coaching/counseling certification such as ATD Expert Coach or Certified Professional Career Coach is preferred. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with one year of experience or an Associate's degree with three years of experience.

Salary:

  • Commensurate with experience.
