Founded in 1848, Georgetown, the county seat for Williamson County, was originally the agricultural trade center for the area. Georgetown is a Home-Rule Charter City and operates under the council-manager form of government. The mayor is elected at-large and seven council members are elected from single-member districts and serve staggered, three-year terms.

Employee Benefits

The City of Georgetown provides a comprehensive, cost effective, health and welfare package that includes the following: medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability, voluntary vision, flexible spending options, employee assistance program, retirement and deferred compensation programs. The City also provides vacation, sick leave, holidays, funeral leave, jury leave, military leave and injury leave. Medical, dental and vision benefits are effective the first of the month following date of hire.

HEALTH INSURANCE

The city offers employees medical insurance through United Health Care. There is no Primary Care Physician (PCP) required.  You have the option to choose one of the following plans: United Health Care Choice Plus PPO (co-pay) or United Health Care Choice Plus HSA.

DENTAL INSURANCE

The City offers employees dental insurance through Ameritas. This plan is unique in that it allows you to choose any licensed dentist for covered services and the plan pays at the Reasonable and Customary rate until annual maximum. The City of Georgetown pays 100% of the Employee-Only premium under Ameritas dental plan.

LIFE INSURANCE

Employee may purchase additional insurance in increments of $10,000 not to exceed 5X their annual earnings.

LONG TERM DISABILITY

Long Term Disability is funded completely by the City.

VISION

The City offers all full-time employees the voluntary United Health Care Vision  Plan. The United Health Care Vision plan offers benefits for eye exams, frames and lenses or contact lenses.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING OPTIONS

Flexible Spending Accounts – Health Care and Dependent Care : Allows the employee to pay for certain un-reimbursed health expenses and dependent care expenses on a pre-tax basis.  Health Care Flexible Spending account is limited use when combined with the United Health Care Choice Plus HSA.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

EAP services are provided through Alliance Work Partners. Program benefits include 24-Hour Call Centers, Short-Term counseling, up to 8 sessions; convenient counseling locations, and Work life Solutions, a program designed to assist you and your family members with legal and financial assistance, health and wellness programs and personal and professional development.

TEXAS MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM – TMRS

The City of Georgetown offers a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System. The City of Georgetown’s TMRS plan requires a contribution (made by means of bi-weekly payroll deductions) equal to seven percent (7%) of the salary of each regular full-time City employee. The City matches employee contributions on a 2 to 1 basis after the employee is vested at the time of retirement. Vesting occurs after 5 years of employment. The City has also adopted 20-year any age retirement. Supplemental Death Benefits approximately equal to your current annual salary.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

In addition, a 457 plan is available. The purpose of this plan is to allow an employee to set aside a portion of his/her salary pre-tax and receive its value at retirement. Employee eligibility is immediate. Employees may select their plan through ICMA.
