The Development & Education Specialist will partner with leadership to develop and design a professional development and education program to support employee career goals in alignment with Lewis’ Vision, Values and Guiding Principles and continuous learning practices. The Specialist will be an employee champion supporting our continual learning and coaching culture. This position reports to the People Services Manager in the Seattle office.


The Specialist will be responsible for instructional design, developing and delivering education and training curriculum for Lewis employees. Curriculum to include competency mapping, manager coaching curriculum development, training material archival and distribution, course scheduling, and participant tracking.


  • Collects and analyzes data from various sources, both established and not yet established
  • Creates programs to identify and eliminate workforce skills gaps, pulling and analyzing data from appraisal process and making recommendations for training in conjunction with divisional leadership and People Services
  • Works with management to determine appropriate delivery methods for topics
  • Develops broad based content compliance, technical, managerial, leadership and culture training
  • Organizes, facilitates and collaborates with leadership and subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop curriculum to support a variety of adult learners, and works with an understanding of Andragogy methods and principles
  • Works with experienced team members to capture employee’s knowledge and company’s best practices and ensure information is archived and distributed to all employees
  • Organizes and oversee the Lewis Pass the Torch mentoring program implementing lessons learned
  • Develops effective learning tools (job aids, quick reference guides, podcasts, e-learning), ensuring versatility and creativity with delivery methods
  • Coordinates with leadership and SMEs to maintain training schedules for employees to reference
  • Coordinates with industry partners and SMEs both internally and externally to schedule training
  • Collaborates with peers and leadership across division(s) to diagnose root cause issues and integrate lessons learned into curriculum
  • Works with industry partners to cultivate a network of SMEs, monitoring and evaluating trends in industry practices
  • Provides clear, concise information to others in a variety of formats, utilizing technology effectively
  • Practices active listening and seeks to clarify ambiguity
  • Advocates and encourages employees to access education through development of a Lewis Library
  • Collects and compiles assessment data to measure training effectiveness and identifies areas of improvement
  • Work with internal teams to develop tracking system



  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Education, Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Instructional Design or related field; commercial construction or manufacturing experience preferred
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in designing, delivering, and maintaining adult education methodologies and training
  • Preferred expertise in development with eLearning tools and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Ability to work and communicate successfully in a culturally diverse environment with all levels of the business with a broad general understanding of the business function
  • Ability to motivate and influence others to achieve high performance. Impacts and motivates others through connecting, sharing, with a humble approach, leading by example
  • Must have the ability to research and explain new topics relevant to the construction industry and translate technical terminology into audience-appropriate language
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently on education initiatives, multi-task and effectively manage time and meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels of an organization
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency; ability to learn and implement eLearning delivery methodologies and tools
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, and to be self-directed and motivated
  • Works with an understanding and implementation of Adult learning methods and principles
  • Ability to travel regionally up to 25%
  • Must have the ability to navigate construction sites, with an understanding to site safety protocols
