AtWork Group, an award-winning national staffing franchise, is seeking an intelligently energetic staffing professional for the position of Director, Learning & Development. This position requires 5-7 years of relevant experience in the staffing industry and reports directly to the Senior VP of Field Ops.


In this role, you should be passionate about helping people learn and grow. Excellent communication skills are essential. You must be highly organized, proficient in time management, and possess excellent presentation skills. If you also have experience designing e-learning courses and managing budgets, we’d like to meet you.

Ultimately, you will help our company succeed by training and developing its people.

Job Purpose

Works directly with AtWork franchise owners and their teams to train and develop their staff. This would include initial training when a franchise first opens as well as developing higher level trainings for more seasoned team members. Occasional field based regional trainings may be expected to be conducted and development of new training programs as necessary.


Reporting Relationships and Organizational Impact

This is a management level position that reports directly to the Senior VP of Field Ops.




A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or another related discipline is required.


This is a management level position that requires a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience within the staffing industry.


Applicant must possess a comprehensive working knowledge of developing and implementing training programs and hosting webinars to facilitate training and implementation of new services or products. Knowledge of the staffing industry and effective sales and recruiting techniques, pricing strategies, and current national and local labor laws is required.


Applicant must possess excellent sales, recruiting, management, and organizational skills, as well as a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office software suite. Strong written and oral communications skills are assumed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, webinars, e-learning, meetings, conferences and workshops

Subject matter expert (SME) regarding AtWork’s products, systems, policies and procedures.

Revise and enhance new hire training content based on needs to ensure content is relevant and engaging

Develop or oversee the production of classroom handouts, instructional materials, aids and manuals.

Oversee successful scheduling, and execution of training classes and training class requests.

Create and execute learning strategies and programs.

Design and deliver e-learning courses, workshops and other trainings.

Developing and implementing learning strategies and programs.

Maintaining budgets and relationships with vendors and consultants as well as negotiating vendor agreements.



Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as an L&D Manager, Training Manager or similar

The ideal candidate would possess a well-rounded background in the staffing industry and be well versed on new practices and employment law

Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Business, HR, or related field, preferred

Current knowledge of effective adult learning principles and development methods

Familiarity with e-learning platforms and practices

Experience in project management and budgeting

Proficient in MS Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS)

Excellent communication and negotiation skills; sharp business acumen

Ability to build rapport with employees and vendors

Professional certification (e.g. CPLP) is a plus

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision

The position will require travel in order to effectively reach locations throughout the system

Working Conditions

This position is based out of Knoxville, TN.  This position offers a mixture of time spent in both a traditional small office environment as well as in the field calling on clients across various industries, so a variety of conditions must be anticipated.


Compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and includes an incentive plan based primarily on the growth and development of the franchise locations. In addition, this role includes health insurance options and paid holiday/vacation time. The position is considered exempt from overtime.
