The Director, Learning MED US is responsible for managing the US learning/training program needs of OPT and MCS, including Service training. This role directs the operations of the Customer Engagement Center, for both internal and external use (with Customers), including scheduling and planning for Center utilization and availability. The Director is responsible for insuring that all Zeiss instruments and equipment within the Center are fully functioning at all times.

Job Functions:

  • Manage small team of trainers (3) dedicated to US markets.
  • Oversee Field Based Sales Trainers (5) for the ODX Sales Regions.
  • Responsible for LMS training coordination and certification, as well as adoption of employee tailored learning paths.
  • Follow Global Learning Management MED guidelines to establish learning paths
  • Drive classroom and digital (e-learning, blended learning based) training for sales representatives, application specialists, marketing functions, service and customer admin-related functions, based on global standards and GCAP approved learning materials for all MED products and clinical solutions offerings.
  • Drive selling skill training for sales representatives and sales management training including sales processes consistent with Global Learning Management MED guidelines
  • Schedule both in-house and on-site training at other US locations as requested.
  • Provide, in conjunction with team, in-house and remote on-site sales support for Carl Zeiss Meditec products.
  • Seek alternate methods of training for the field based sales and teams (Virtual, Web based, Video productions of product demos, etc.), in alignment with Global Learning MED Function.
  • Maintain a consistently high standard of quality for all customer training.
  • Customize learning and course materials for Carl Zeiss Meditec products to specific US needs (e.g., reimbursement, competition etc.) in agreement with Global Learning Management MED function
  • Dotted-line reporting to Global Learning Management MED
  • Working closely within the Trainer global network
  • ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (Non-essential duties or marginal job functions that support essential functions)
  • Provide market feedback on all aspects of existing products and opportunities.
  • Contribute to international clinical data collection efforts.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects (e.g. for Marketing, Engineering and R&D).
  • Provide International Technical Support as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development in U.S. new product assessment US
  • Support international sales representatives at shows, conferences and presentations.
  • Present courses for ophthalmic professionals at international meetings.
  • Lead the Sales Training needs as CZMI builds a new office facility in the next 2 years
  • Support Executive Management with Training needs for the sales team and Customer Engagement.


  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
  • 8 years’ min experience in B2B (e.g. Sales, Marketing) in MED-Tec business, Ophthalmology or Surgery (Neuro, ENT) strongly preferred
  • Six (6) years’ management experience
  • Clinical knowledge of surgery (OPT or MCS) and diagnostics (OPT)
  • Extensive knowledge of Carl Zeiss Meditec equipment.
  • Previous Sales management experience.
  • Computer skills; knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Public speaking skills and teaching skills.
  • Able to work with a wide variety of cultures and language abilities
  • SPECIAL DEMANDS: Travel frequency is very high.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
