Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a Director of Organizational Learning and Development.


Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Director of Organizational Learning and Development in collaboration with the Executive Director of Human Resources Services, will act as an internal consultant and subject-matter expert, leading College-wide initiatives to improve productivity and effectiveness. The successful candidate will diagnose and identify organizational issues and identify interventions, projects, and programs that will lead to greater organizational capability and capacity. Initiatives and consultation may involve: change management, culture shift, leadership and management development, organizational design, process improvement, performance management, employee engagement, executive coaching, learning programs, customized training, facilitation, and/or other interventions aimed at enhancing overall organizational and individual performance.


In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Director of Organizational Learning and Development performs the following duties:


- Develops strategic partnerships with the colleges’ leaders to identify and develop organization development initiatives that address the college’s strategic goals, enhance needs and key performance indicators.


- Identify, develop, and manage multi-year projects that drive professional development and improvement, and reinforcement of the strategies, structures, and processes that will lead to greater organization effectiveness.


- Design creative solutions to professional development challenges. Collaborate with the Office of Human Resources Services to implement effective approaches.


- Conducts college-wide (as well as group, area, department, division) assessments and root cause analyses about organization and unit health and effectiveness so that change projects can be prioritized and successfully implemented.


- Assess organization and talent development needs and analyze gaps between desired state and the current state within the college on a regular basis. Design, plan and assess the interventions that bring about the desired changes.


- Provide coaching, best practice resources, and ongoing development planning with department heads and senior leadership. Provide constructive feedback and recommend creative, cost-effective solutions


- Develop plans and take actions in self-directed manner to meet long term goals and objectives.


- Work with faculty and graduate students to develop cross-functional collaboration. Incorporate college interns and graduate students in projects where appropriate.


- Stays-up-to-date with current research and trends impacting areas responsibility.


- Create and monitor the Organizational Learning and Development strategic and operational assessment plans.


- Develop and document all standards, processes, policies, and procedures to support high quality OD and OE services.


- Attend University meetings and communicate relevant information.


- Perform all other tasks assigned by the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration.




- Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience required.


- Master’s degree preferred in Organization Development or Industrial/Organizational Psychology.


- Demonstrated experience and aptitude for organization development, leadership development, coaching and change management to develop organization and culture.


- Demonstrated ability to apply a structured change leadership approach and methodology for the people-side of change caused by projects and change efforts.


- Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with employees at all levels and across different functions including senior leadership and executives.


- Demonstrated practiced systems thinker, demonstrating the ability to think, communicate, perform and add value toward the continuous improvement of the organization.


- Working familiarity with various models such as: ADKAR, Lewin, Kotter, Action Research, ADDIE, TQM, and Process Consultation


- International Coaching Federation (ICF) coaching education and experience preferred.


- Experience working with large and small groups.


- Experience in higher education and working with unionized employees


- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills


- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)




Leads initiatives to develop and implement improvements to management and administrative practices and systems.


- Serves as a consultant to management in investigating current situations and in identifying the scope of the problem and potential solutions


- Conducts studies and reviews to design organizational or systems improvements, developing appropriate measurements and goals


- Serves as a change management leader in implementing major organizational or systems improvements; develops and executes implementation plans, reporting results and issues to management


- Develops and implements training, communications, ongoing task forces and teams, and other support to maintain and build on results


- Performs related duties as assigned.
