The E-Learning Development Manager is responsible for the development of high-quality custom e-learning courses, directly and through qualified designers and developers. The managers who make up the Artisan Production Department are the face of Artisan to our clients. Together they create strong professional relationships and guide clients through the e-learning production process. We pride ourselves on creating courses with our clients not just  for our clients. 

The E-Learning Development Manager oversees the process of converting storyboards and other written content into dynamic learner-centric e-learning products that meet specific client needs. In this role, the Development Manager works closely with the Project Manager and Writing Manager, along with the contractors and Artisan staff who are assigned to each project. This close collaboration provides a smooth client experience and results in projects that are delivered on time, on budget, and to established quality standards.

This is a full-time, remote position that offers a salary along with monthly technology and health stipends.

Accountability - General

  • Serve as designer/developer for select projects. 

  • Onboard new contract designers and developers to meet Artisan standards and expectations.

  • Provide ongoing team and individual development opportunities for contract developers. Participate in contractor group communication and relationship building. 

  • Advise on needs for additional quantity and types of contract designers, developers, as well as browser and QA testers, to ensure an adequate supply of resources.

  • Create and maintain current process documentation for development and testing tasks.

  • Create and maintain current Artisan style guides for development.

  • Collaborate with other managers on overall system improvements including process changes, documentation, and training. 

  • Develop courses for internal Artisan use. (eg: sales samples, staff/contractor development)

  • Maintain current expertise on the latest e-learning development thinking, methodologies, and tools.

  • Carry the Artisan banner for a quality and innovative course design and development.

Accountability - Project Specific

  • Participate with the project manager in selecting the appropriate contractor(s).

  • Follow budget, schedule, and time allotments.

  • Communicate client expectations and related ideas to the developer(s) and staff assigned to the project.

  • Serve as liaison between the client and the developer (or delegate as appropriate).

  • Serve as client point of contact for the development specifics of the project.

  • Review and sign off on all development work (internal and external) and deliverables.

  • Provide feedback, direction, and edits to ensure the highest quality development and design. 

  • Apprise the Project Manager of potential changes to scope, schedule, and budget, working together to resolve issues.

  • Participate in status calls relative to the development and testing parts of the project.

  • Resolve technical troubleshooting needs.

  • Participate in post-project “Lessons Learned” meeting as appropriate.

  • Work as a team with other Production Department managers to create a smooth client experience, ensuring that cost, quality, and time goals are achieved.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • BA or BS, or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of practical e-learning course development experience, utilizing a variety of current authoring tools

  • Experience overseeing multi-function project teams of 3+ members

  • Experience working with independent contractors

  • Experience interacting with stakeholders at varying organizational levels

Skills Required:

  • Advanced proficiency in rapid development e-learning authoring tools, especially Articulate 360 products

  • Ability to guide developers and provide feedback to ensure course design that is creative, award-winning, and tailored to client needs

  • Strong client management skills, including the ability to collaborate with clients and represent Artisan professionally during the course of entire projects.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Creative approach to problem solving with the ability to focus on details and the big picture

  • Familiarity (expertise preferred) with Section 508 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

  • Understanding of systems training in an e-learning application

  • Graphic design training or practical experience

  • Consultative experience to conduct action mapping and/or other forms of training needs analysis

  • Ability to collaborate and work productively on a virtual team

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development with a focus in e-learning design and development best practices
