PERA’s Field Education Division provides education about PERA’s defined benefit retirement plan, defined contribution plans, and other built-in benefit programs to PERA’s members and affiliated employers.

This position understands and delivers complex retirement information, encourages retirement planning, and contributes to the development of presentation materials for diverse audiences. This position involves extensive travel throughout the state of Colorado.



Our ideal candidate is an effective public speaker who is personable and articulate, with the ability to distill complex financial, retirement, and benefits information into understandable concepts and language. A proven track record of demonstrated effective relationship management skills and the ability to influence and inspire action is desired. We are looking for a professional who can also assimilate best training practices and integrate adult learning theories into public presentations and projects.   • Develops, arranges, and delivers general and specialized education for members, benefit recipients, and affiliated employers via on-site presentations, one-on-one interaction, web and other e-based platforms Comprehends and communicates about PERA’s benefit plans, insurance programs, retirement readiness, and financial security
  • Motivates membership to plan for retirement and helps them understand and utilize the resources available to them
  • Accurately and professionally conveys information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner to people of diverse social, economic, and educational backgrounds Assimilates training best practices into the development, classroom management, and facilitation of instruction
  • Integrates adult learning theories and methodologies, behavioral finance concepts and technical expertise into the development and evaluation of presentation content and materials
  • Travels to and from meetings and events on a regular basis located in a variety of work environments at varying times including evenings and weekends. Responsible for meeting set-up and tear-downCompiles meeting/event data such as attendance, questions from attendees, and other evaluation data for purposes of measuring the effectiveness of presentations, trainers, and general service level satisfaction
  • Develops and maintains relationships with affiliated PERA employers, and actively seeks to expand educational outreach for members at employer locationsParticipates in a team environment to complete project work 
  • Contributes to and may lead projects and initiatives to advance educational materials and presentations
  • Participates in training and educational opportunities for ongoing professional development
  • Responsible for meeting division metrics and standards as set forth by management
  • Acts with a sense of urgency and accountability to meet assigned deadlinesMaintains regular and prompt attendance in the workplace and at meeting locations
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and team events
  • Recognizes issues or inefficiencies, works to find better solutions. Looks beyond the obvious and doesn’t stop at the first/easiest resolution
  • Willingly puts in extra time and effort in key situations
  • Volunteers readily to assist when needed and consistently goes above and beyond what is normally required 
  • Performs other duties as assigned 



  • A combination of related education and experience equivalent to three years; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in teaching, training, pension administration, retirement planning, or employee benefits preferred
  • Ability to use own skills and judgement to help make progress toward group goals
  • Ability to identify and consider all available alternatives before making decisions with an understanding of impact of decisions on others
  • Detail oriented and ability to focus in a variety of work environments
  • Polished speaker who can adapt to and interact with a variety of audiences
  • Effective relationship management skills and the ability to influence and inspire action
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate activities with minimal supervision while working in a team environment
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and communicate state statutes, rules, and procedures in a manner easily understood by persons not familiar with the subject
  • Ability to work in a matrix reporting relationship balancing independence and flexibility with outstanding team work
  • Ability to understand and effectively explain financial concepts, basic investing, member benefits, and retirement pensions is desired
  • Ability to contribute to positive, high performing team culture
  • Ability to travel extensively, including weekends and evenings, on a varied schedule
  • Valid driver’s license with excellent driving record
  • Ability to handle several tasks or challenges at the same time
  • Ability to communicate clearly using a variety of communication formats
  • Ability to effectively use a personal computer and audio-visual equipment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and presentation software


  • Standard office environment with regular computer use
  • Regular work in varied indoor environments, occasional work in outdoor environments and in all weather conditions
  • Travel up to 75% of time including nights, overnights, and weekends
  • Frequent long periods of daytime and/or nighttime driving throughout Colorado, and in all weather conditions
  • Frequent standing and moving or carrying presentation materials and lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
