Position Summary:

Working with education managers and designated subject matter experts, the instructional design specialist will lead in the analysis, design, and development of new face-to-face and virtually delivered instructor-led training (ILT) courses, certificate programs, certification-prep courses and the revision/maintenance of existing ASSP-owned courses.


Position Responsibilities:

  • In developing new courses for ASSP, the ID Specialist will determine the target audience, assess the needs, determine learning objectives, design content and assessments, structure learning activities, and create instructional materials.
  • In revising existing ASSP courses, the ID Specialist may develop assessments or other measures of learning comprehension and will revise existing course structure and content to be more activity based.
  • Work closely with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure that all learning solutions are built on sound adult learning principals and meet all regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Create and maintain project plans for the analysis, design, development, implementation of pilot/train-the-trainer, evaluation and maintenance of blended learning solutions.
  • Work with the LMS Coordinator to load content on the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Pull and analyze evaluation reports from the LMS to make decisions around maintenance of blended learning solutions.
  • Develop train-the-trainers for facilitator led or virtual learning that is either in-person or virtual.


  • A Bachelor’s degree in adult learning, instructional design or related area or equivalent experience is required.
  • 3-5 years of instructional design experience of blended learning solutions.
  • Interest in the implementation of innovative, creative course delivery methods
  • Must have strong communication and influencing skills and be willing to partner with volunteer subject matter experts and facilitators to produce instructionally sound blended learning solutions.
  • A proven track record of working in adult learning.
  • Experience working in an association setting is highly preferred.
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with staff, member volunteers, and subject matter experts.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity of communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Knowledge of and experience developing facilitator guides and participant workbooks in LeaderGuide Pro is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience developing online learning in BranchTrack, GoAnimate, Audacity, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Comfortable delivering virtual classes or webinars.
  • Experience with the Learning Management System, Top Class, is a plus.
  • Ability to work in the Windows environment with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
