Instructional Designer

Apprenticeship and Training Department

The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union, AFL-CIO, is a proud trade association whose beginnings go back to the 1890s. This full-time administrative position is located at the headquarters office at 1750 New York Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20006.

Responsibilities include facilitating the development and updating of print and online training packages and materials; managing the Learning Management System (LMS); working with IT to manage the proprietary apprentice tracking system (ATS); managing the online bookstore; and supporting instructional design, education, and training departmental projects.

Based in Washington, DC, the Training Specialist will support the work of the Apprenticeship and Training Department of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers (www.ironworkers.org). The Training Specialist will report to the Executive Director of Apprenticeship and Training and work closely with the department staff. He/She will oversee the related print and online training materials used by the 154 training centers in North America and manage LMS development including course content, function and administration. The start date for this position is September 2018.

Ironworkers LMS management – content, function, and development.

     Manage improving and design of the ironworkers Apprentice Tracking System database, working with our IT department as needed.

     Facilitate the development of new training curriculum as needed.

     Convert existing training materials into interactive online courses.

Requirements

  • Must have experience in developing both traditional and e-learning career and technical education curriculum materials.
  • Proficient using Articulate Storyline and/or other online course development software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in career and technical education, construction management, training and development, instructional design, or a related area.
