The MITRE Corporation oversees seven Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (www.mitre.org).  The MITRE Institute is the Training and Development (T&D) arm of the MITRE Corporation.  The MITRE Institute Technical Training and Development Group (TT&DG) is responsible for identifying and providing technical training and development products/services to enhance the capability and performance of the MITRE Corporation’s technical staff.  The Lead Technical Training and Development Specialist will work with the Group Leader and the Department Manager of the MITRE Institute Technical Training and Development Group to develop and execute a strategy to build workforce capability in technical areas in which MITRE has increasing demand for qualified and skilled talent.  Both synchronous and asynchronous training and development solutions are utilized, such as instructor-led training, commercial eLearning, university programs, video broadcasts, video shorts, webinars, flipped classroom, blended learning, and modularized designs.  The successful candidate will work with MITRE Institute management, with other Lead Technical Development Specialists, and with support/AV/system administrative staff to develop and deliver these training and development solutions in order to optimize impact, responsiveness, efficiency, and cost.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a strong mixture of technical expertise, training and development experience, and project management skills to help envision and implement the deliverables of the MITRE Institute Technical Training and Development Group. The functions of this position include the following:

 

  • Work with MITRE mid- to senior leaders and technical staff to determine the technical training and development (T&D) needs of their business units, and determine how to translate those needs into T&D solutions that build critical workforce capabilities
  • Develop and maintain internal MITRE relationships to facilitate requirements gathering, needs assessments, use of subject matter experts, and the output of training products
  • Use strong consulting skills to work with MITRE management to identify and solve their training and development needs.
  • Collaborate with the MITRE Institute management on staff outreach and technical community engagement to determine what is needed and to find the right SMEs to deliver the programs
  • Analyze, design, develop, and oversee the delivery of educational curricula and specific educational events, including multi-event curricula at multiple levels
    • Responsible for training program success and training product quality oversight, including project management of the development activity, requirements identification, sizing/scoping of the overall effort, detailed design, delivery, and impact evaluation.
    • Work with other training and development professionals using state-of-the-practice techniques to infuse the TT&DG programs with the best T&D practices available to effectively and efficiently achieve learning outcomes
    • Meet the training needs of staff at the main facilities (McLean/Bedford) and remote MITRE sites.
    • Task support staff to assist in program delivery, but personally assume overall responsibility and accountability for planning, implementation, and technical delivery
    • Provide budgetary data, track and analyze progress, and report to MITRE Institute managers on your programs’ progress

The successful candidate will have a strong set of qualifications in technical skills, training and development activities, and project management.  The preferred skills are as follows:

  • M.S.  in a technical field in which MITRE works, and 5-10 years of work experience in that or related technical field.
  • Experience working in training design/delivery within a corporate Training and Development (T&D) environment for at least 5 years. 
  • Proven T&D experience in designing and delivering of multiple types of synchronous and asynchronous training and development solutions, including instructor-led training, eLearning, university programs, video broadcasts, video shorts, webinars, flipped classroom, blended learning, and modularized designs.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work successfully with the MITRE Institute staff and management, MITRE Instructors, and MITRE managers, and vendors.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to a constantly changing environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and listening communications skills
  • Ability to select, negotiate, and work in partnership with individuals and groups external to MITRE to fulfill MITRE and MITRE Institute needs
