Reporting to the Training Manager on the Learning and Organizational Development team within the Office of Human Resources, the Learning and Development Trainer (two opportunities available) will work with subject matter experts across the Office of Human Resources to design, develop, and deliver high quality learning solutions to improve operational efficiency across Carnegie Mellon University. .

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Develop training courses and curriculum to support business objectives in a fast-paced environment. Determine the appropriate delivery method (e.g. instructor-led, webinars, videos, online courses, etc.) and develop all supporting materials including but not limited to: training outlines, documentation, presentations, reference guides, job aides, etc. in alignment with adult learning principles.
  • Facilitate group and individual instruction and training covering a range of topics including systems, tools, compliance, processes and competencies.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training and development programs and utilize relevant evaluation data to revise or recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods.
  • Coordinate and manage all training logistics.
  • Lead complex training related projects ensuring projects remain on time and within budget. Identify and manage all resources. Develop and manage project plans and time lines utilizing project management standards. Identify risks and puts into place contingency plans. Tracks and reports progress.
  • Organizes and manages multiple projects at once based on assignment priority.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with subject matter experts and partners within the campus areas to stay abreast of current thinking and brings best practices to the organization
  • Uses a proactive, consultative approach to help craft and implement business-focused learning and development solutions with subject matter experts.
  • Partners closely with business unit leadership teams to analyze and determine learning needs and then develop the associated learning strategy.
  • Identifies where formal training is not the best solution and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned

  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven success in building and maintaining effective working partnerships across all areas.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online and adult learning methodologies.

Requirements

Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum one year of training, professional development, curriculum design or related experience is required.
  • Experience with delivering technical trainings is desirable.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications, eLearning publishing and learning assessments such as SkillSoft, Articulate, Qualtrics, Captivate or Confluence is also preferred.
