We are looking for a Learning & Development Manager to drive the overall learning and development strategy for UHCU. This is a newly created role that will work under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Operations in developing and implementing professional development training curriculum to include areas such as compliance, bank-role specific training, technical, soft skills, new hire, sales, and management/leadership development. You will lead a team of two Learning & Development Specialists. Together, the three of you will partner to build our training curriculum and learning solutions from the ground up.  

Your initial responsibilities will be to consult and collaborate with key business partners and stakeholders to help identify organization needs and enhance employee performance. You’ll then lead the efforts to create, implement, and deliver a sustainable L&D strategy that will equip both our new hires and existing team members with the skills needed to make an impact and continue to grow. We’re counting on you to assess and prioritize our needs across the organization to deliver upon the successful execution of our professional development training programs. In addition, you’ll lead our awesome training team and coach them to make an impact and continue to develop their skills.

As Learning & Development Manager at UHCU you will:

  • Collaborate with various Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from each line of business and spearhead the overall analysis, design, development, delivery, and evaluation of strategic and functional training programs that help drive business objectives.
  • Consult with department and branch managers to assess training needs.
  • Evaluate the training needs of new and existing team members in order to develop, design and deliver the training curriculum to meet the Credit Union’s needs.
  • Work closely with Compliance management to ensure that the Credit Union’s training programs incorporate essential compliance components.
  • Oversee the design, management, and execution of the Learning Management System (LMS); including vendor management.
  • Act as a true SME on learning and development innovation, best practices, and strategies.
  • Conduct regular training, quality audits and needs assessments through review of key performance metrics, quality review of work products, and feedback from team members and management.
  • Lead, coach, and retain your team through planning, directing and organizing departmental duties.  

What you will need to succeed: 

  • Strong interpersonal, relationship management, coaching, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated consultative, influencing, strategic thinking and problem-solving, writing, proofreading and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and experience working under stressful deadlines.
  • Expert with instructional design tools and methodologies including project management tools, multi-media authoring training tools and Learning Management Systems; advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and internet fluency.
  • Advanced proficiency in adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies.
  • Ability to identify and analyze training needs and create programs that satisfy identified skills gaps
  • Strong knowledge of financial products and services.
  • Travel to other branches and work locations within the Austin and Tyler area is required based on business need.


  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Adult Learning, Instructional Design, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree preferably in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Adult Learning, Instructional Design, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Three or more years of relevant banking or credit union experience is preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years working in a learning and development (education/training) department and a proven record of training consulting, instructional design, and training facilitation experience in a business professional work environment required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing a team of training and development professionals.
  • Minimum 2 years of training/facilitation experience in leadership and interpersonal skill building.
  • Experience using a variety of Learning Management Systems and course development tools.
  • Additional Education/Certifications in the areas of Instructional Design, Project Management, Human Resources, Coaching or Leadership Development preferred.
