The VCU Human Resources team has an exciting opportunity for a Learning & Development Manager!

Under the direction of the Director of Learning, Development and Organizational Culture and working closely with the Director of HR Service, Strategy & Decision Support, this position is responsible for managing and supporting the design, development, delivery and evaluation of effective learning and training programs to be offered at all levels of the University system.

The Manager will work to create a framework and lead the Learning and Training team in a design process to drive individual career growth and professional development, organizational talent capability, and business results at the University.

As an experienced HR Professional, this position will oversee and support the creation and evaluation (ROI) of training and development programs, performance management and other initiatives designed to bring out the best in VCU employees at all levels.

General duties include:
•Provide guidance and management for Learning and Development programs and projects, including strategy, direction and initiatives.
•Deliver feedback and coaching to Learning and Development team members. Manage team performance and workload.
•Develop and facilitate post-training application with program stakeholders.
•Manage/provide guidance to direct reports in planning and implementing University training and development activities.
•Collaborate with internal customers to gain knowledge of business direction, learning needs, and conduct, and facilitate the creation of targeted learning and development programs.
•Create and manage training standards, expectations, budgets, resources and measurements that build and support employee engagement, compliance, skills and competencies.
•Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), build storyboards and course templates, create navigation/branching and interaction tools, review and update in conjunction with SMEs, conduct QA and testing, and deliver learning curriculum to build the expertise of all constituencies.
•Determine and recommend instructional methods and training techniques leveraging current technology options in alignment with the learning and training needs assessments and the delivery training options identified in collaboration with HR partners and University leaders.
•Support, design, and deliver Instructor Led Training, webcasts, virtual conferences, and online learning related to VCU HR policy and processes and learning/skill needs.
•Provide leaders, managers, departments and employees with tools to leverage technology, improve teaching and learning in the classroom and online, including the redesign of courses for hybrid and online delivery.
•Provide training on various technologies and techniques to Learning, Development and Organizational Culture team members to ensure the in-person and electronic-based curriculum meets their andragogic goals and is accessible and consistent with prevailing standards. Such standards include, but are not limited to: design, web design, and accessibility.

Requirements

•MBA, Advanced degree in Adult Education, Industrial Psychology or Organizational Development or equivalent related experience.
•Significant years of professional level, related experience.
•Detailed knowledge of training, organization development and learning practices.
•Experience with supervisory and management skills training.
•Intellectual curiosity, a deep growth mindset, and the desire to constantly improve.
•Experience successfully managing, leading and coaching individual and team performance.
•Demonstrated ability to assess organizational needs, administer programs, and manage complex learning and training projects.
•Solid understanding of contemporary learning theories, differing development tools and learning management systems.
•Team player, willing to adapt based on business needs.
•A high amount of detail-orientation and project management skills.
•Proficient in Learning and Development ROI Calculation and Strategic HR Metrics.
•Advanced skill in developing web- and media-based technologies for education.
•Familiarity with LMS and HRIS systems.
•High degree of fluency in Excel, and in presentation tools such as PowerPoint and Prezi.
•Experience with Learning Management Systems, Articulate, Virtual team/communication software.
•Proficient in MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint and Google Suite.
•Excellent facilitation skills, strong presentation and communication skills. Advanced written communication skills.
•Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work with senior leaders to accomplish goals.
•Ability to grasp the University’s educational mission, strategic aims, and programs.
•Demonstrated experience fostering a diverse and inclusive environment and an expressed commitment to do so while at VCU.

•Project management experience in a learning & development function.
•Experience driving Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.
•10+ years of professional level, related experience.
