ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) is a world-renowned, member-based professional organization focused on serving the technical, educational and other programmatic needs of the engineering and technology communities on a worldwide basis. ASME generates approximately $115 million annually from the sale of products and services and provides a wide range of mission focused programs and activities.

We currently have an outstanding opportunity for a Learning Experience Designer to join the Learning and Development team in our New York office.

We’re looking to grow our team with highly motivated and energetic people who have the right balance of skills and personality that will help bring ASME learning offerings up and over the high bar we’re setting for ourselves.

At ASME, a Learning Experience Designer (LXD) is responsible for instructional design, course development, deployment, and maintenance, but most importantly an LXD creates engaging, real-world, high-quality learning experiences that delight our learners and bring them back to us again and again. The Learning Experience team works with amazing Engineering Subject Matter Experts (SME) and content development vendors to deliver fun, modern courses and programs.

Working with a Manager of Learning Experience, the Learning Experience Designer will develop ASME courses, curricular frameworks and maintain/revise existing course material as needed. In addition, this role will be responsible for managing external expertise on a contract basis (e.g., Subject Matter Experts, production vendors) as needed, according to project requirements.

Ideal candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent additional experience in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Science, or a closely related field and a minimum of three years’ experience of successful eLearning course development and implementation. Preference will be given to those who have experience working in STEM disciplines and/or industrial applications.

In addition, candidate should have:

• High level of comfort working with engineering SMEs and complicated, technical concepts and processes
• Familiarity with multiple instructional design approaches
• Experience with 508 compliance and WCAG
• Familiarity with rapid prototyping, beta testing, and peer reviews
• Eye for good UX/UI
• Ability to lead meetings effectively and track and follow up on action items
• Ability to convey complex technical information and processes with clarity in multiple modalities (written, visual, etc.)
• Knowledge of various virtual classroom applications, graphic tools, and other Web authoring software
• Proficiency with MS Office, especially PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
• Familiarity with multiple LMSs/CMSs

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or protected veteran status. ASME takes affirmative action in support of its policy to advance in employment individuals who are minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

Only those candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.
