Overview: 

The Learning & Organization Development (L&OD) Partner is a key role on a small, dynamic team focused on evolving HHMI’s people processes as we move discovery science forward. The L&OD team is responsible for many cultural levers including learning and development, organizational design, employee engagement, goal-setting and feedback, and change and adoption. This role reports to the Manager, L&OD within People and Culture and is primarily focused on building sustainable learning programs across HHMI. The successful candidate will seamlessly operate at both the strategic and tactical level through developing blended training and e-learning modules, curating learning modules within the learning platform, meeting the needs of two campuses and virtual employees across the US, as well as designing curriculum and facilitating off-the-shelf and internally produced material. This role must be able to provide tangible value; navigate through a complex, relationship-based, matrixed organization; and collaborate effectively to get work done through others. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

The successful candidate will seamlessly operate at both the strategic and tactical level – having responsibility for developing blended training and e-learning modules, curating learning modules within the learning platform, meeting the needs of two campuses and virtual employees across the US, as well as designing curriculum and facilitating off-the-shelf and internally produced material. This role must be able to provide tangible value; navigate through a complex, relationship-based, matrixed organization; and collaborate effectively to get work done through others.

  • Create, execute and sustain HHMI’s manager effectiveness programs that meet unique needs for distinct management populations in both operations and scientific programs 
  • Coordinate with Manager, Learning and Organization Development to measure program effectiveness
  • Create, execute and sustain train-the-trainer model for key learning modules to be rolled out across HHMI’s dispersed employee population across US
  • Design and facilitate learning including customized off-the-shelf content, inhouse developed content, and train-the-trainer materials
  • Design learning modules that demonstrate mastery with storyboarding consistent with adult learning theory and instructional design principles
  • Manage internal and external facilitator relationships
  • Partner with L&OD, People & Culture, Business Solutions and Strategy colleagues to embed learning for desired behaviors across organization to build capability
  • Create and lead a Facilitator Community of Practice (COP) to foster learning agility across the organization
  • Coach individuals and teams, as needed

Qualifications


Education:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required
  • Masters degree in Learning and Development, Organizational Development, Organization Psychology or a related field is preferred

Experience:

  • 8-10 years Learning and Development experience including learning program design, facilitation, and continuous program optimization; coordination of leadership and professional development activities
  • Experience with learning methodologies and adult learning models
  • Proven track record of creatively building customized learning programs

 Skills and Abilities: 

  • Must clearly demonstrate initiative with a bias for action especially in imperfect circumstances
  • Capability to navigate matrixed organizations and the ability to authentically lead – as a subject matter expert, as a facilitator, and as a role model – regardless of title or hierarchy
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, connect professionally, and gain trust and credibility with different levels of professionals across the organization
  • Ability to capture and analyze qualitative and quantitative learning program data
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Proven track record with instructor-led and virtual training 

Travel & Alternate Work Location: 

  • This position requires up to 30% travel depending on priorities and program roll-outs. When travel occurs, it is typically in week sprints, spaced out by several weeks.
  • Incumbent is expected to work from our Ashburn, VA campus 1-2 times per week.
