What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation’s leading voice on mental health. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Today, we are an alliance of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and a national office who work in communities across the United States to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI advocates for all who are affected by mental illness, both the individuals and the people in their lives. In particular, we work to address disparities and injustices and to promote dignity and inclusion for all people with mental illness and their families. In addition to being advocates, we educate, we listen, and we lead as evidenced by our public awareness campaigns, the range of numerous programs we provide, and our strong public policy.

We currently have an opening for a Senior Manager, Knowledge & Learning. The Sr. Manager of Knowledge & Learning will be responsible for advancing and promoting the learning culture of NAMI that is diverse and inclusive. Reporting to the National Director, this role will lead to the development and/or enhancement of knowledge and learning strategies, systems and programs, and their implementation for Field Advancement. Effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders will be crucial in determining success.

The Sr. Manager of Knowledge & Learning will have the responsibility for designing and establishing knowledge management and evaluation systems. These systems will help to improve quality and integrity of programs and information in order to enhance the capacity of end users to advance the mission of NAMI.

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Become familiar with existing knowledge and learning ambitions of the field advancement department, and across all other departments and guide the field advancement team on how to achieve these goals
  • Work closely with and across NAMI departments and Alliance leadership to shape the strategic approach to knowledge and learning
  • Lead the design, development and implementation of knowledge management systems, ensuring robustness and consistency of approach and that align with objectives
  • Ensure the field advancement work on knowledge and learning is considered best in class
  • Embrace different styles of training techniques, including e-learning, web-based training, job aides, etc.
  • Strategically disseminate findings, knowledge and guidance through various avenues, including but not limited to: communities of practice, virtual or on-site workshops, conferences, and webinars, at global, regional or country-specific levels
  • Lead and support learning events, conduct research, produce resources and guidance, and facilitate ongoing content development and engagement
  • Publish reports, highlight success stories, communicate program impact/overall results
  • Document and share learning – ensure requirements, lessons learned, and best practices for products, events, and other knowledge management activities are clear and documented
  • Think outside the box – identify and share more creative, efficient and effective ways to engage audiences and facilitate sharing and collaboration
  • Serve as project technical lead on all matters related to knowledge management
  • Manage and oversee support staff


Requirements

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in knowledge management, organizational learning, education
  • Demonstrated understanding of knowledge management principles and capacity to deliver knowledge management and/or organizational learning activities.
  • Ability to link content development and engagement strategies that facilitate timely, useful delivery of information through project learning platforms and activities.
  • Excellent facilitation, program/activity management, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience developing knowledge management strategies and systems
  • Experience in program management, design, monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting.
  • Proven ability to lead project teams and deliver impact, with minimal supervision in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • High level of competency in learning management software/platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Skilled in analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating learning for a variety of instructional formats
  • Previous project management experience and use of Salesforce (preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and can be detail oriented while holding the larger strategy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Models curiosity, flexibility, integrity and commitment to the NAMI mission, vision and values.
This position is based in Arlington, VA.
