The senior practitioner of learning and organization development, reports directly to the AVP of L&OD and works closely with the Assistant Directors to assess, design, develop, implement, evaluate and report on all education and training activities while adhering to IACEUT compliance standards. The Senior Practitioner is responsible for leading technical / complex training course development projects and may collaborate with other learning consultants dedicated to similar work in other functional groups. The senior practitioner develops team strategies and operational plans to achieve results in support of clients’ performance related initiatives for Duke University and Health System.

 

Work Performed

Translates Duke's mission, vision, and values into tangible HR processes, organization-wide change efforts, and business unit interventions. Collaborates with senior line management to plan and implement strategies of large-scale change initiatives and/or rollouts, providing consulting services, serving as a subject matter expertise to senior management clients in the delivery and evaluation of programs and services that meet the needs and operating units' unique requirements by:

Assessment & Initiation

  • Using consulting tools and technologies, conduct needs assessments with prospective clients to define the project feasibility, scope, and intervention type.
  • Seeks to clarify the client’s need, desired outcomes and vision.
  • Gathers information regarding context to foster problem identification, assess problem complexity and determine project fit.
  • Recommend alternative resources, internal and/or external for project outside of L&OD scope of work.
  • Develops project budgets and proposals

Design, Development & Planning

  • Collaborating with Assistant Directors, use ISD methodology to design and develop open registration and organization development learning products determining KSAs, learning objectives and transfer.
  • Integrating best practices to develop appropriate OD interventions aligned with strategic and operational results and priorities, senior leaders' vision, and cultural values of the institution.
  • Determine appropriateness of developing in-house and/or acquiring outsourced vendor solutions to optimally allocate resources that meet learners VAK needs to include authoring course delivery outlines, participant manuals, presentation decks, trainer guides, and supplemental material.

Execution & Implementation

  • Using an experiential learning approach, deliver high quality instructor lead training for professional development and organization development programs and leveraging assessments, simulations and TBT to supplement instructor lead training offerings, as appropriate.
  • Effectively manage the learning environment to ensure learner’s needs are met through the use of strong adult learning principles, facilitation skills, learner engagement and feedback and diverse instructional style.
  • Ensure that the selected learning approach is solution-focused and aligns with desired outcomes for professional development and organization development initiatives.

Evaluate & Monitor

  • Select appropriate strategies, design and measures to collect data on training effectiveness and impact on learners’ and organization’s goals employing formative and summative formats using Kirkpatrick’s or Phillips & Phillips methodologies.
  • Measure and communicate the impact of consulting efforts for both, program deliverables and customer satisfaction.

Program & Project Management

  • Provide audit and documentation support Professional Development IACET and eLearning IACET offerings.
  • Lead the HR Certificate of Excellence programming
  • Support Professional Development Academy offerings by leading curriculum maintenance, participant and mentor recruitment, job shadowing/OJT site identification and selection process and vendor sourcing.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education: 

Master's degree required.  Master's degree in Adult Education/Learning, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organization Behavior, Organizational Development, Training & Performance Improvement, or related field strongly preferred.

 

Experience:

Minimum of 4 to 7 years of experience in increasingly responsibile positions in human resources, organizational development, change management, management consulting and/or related fields.

 

Qualifications/Competencies:  

  • Ability to convert knowledge of university, health system, and HR goals, strategies, metrics, targets, initiatives, and results into learning and OD consulting opportunities
  • Experience in learning and organization development consulting in complex organizations with senior leaders
  • Experience in assessment, design, development, delivery, and evaluation of learning content
  • Experience in strategic, operational, and project management
  • Experience in building and sustaining trusting relationship with customers and partners.

 

Skills

  • Use analysis skills to assess gaps in culture, performance, root causes, and training.
  • Use instructional design methodologies to curate, contextualize and adapt training content.
  • Conceptualize and develop training related material include presentation decks, facilitation guides, participant material, visual aids and supplemental material.
  • Lead project and program implementation efforts including initiating, planning, execution, monitoring and closing.
  • Facilitate organizational development and open registration curriculums.
  • Conduct formative and summative evaluations.
  • Administer, interpret and provide feedback on psychometric and organization assessments.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Intermediate technology skills in Microsoft Office Suite
