Responsible for training and development activities by assessing employee competencies and organizational training needs/requirements and then providing knowledge, skill, and performance enhancing solutions for both salaried and hourly employees.
• Assess and recommend new training classes or programs to continue development of participants’ knowledge and skills. This includes making recommendations that may be applicable to specific groups or departments
• Develop and maintain instructor led curriculum (course objectives, outline, participant guide, facilitator guide, job aids, knowledge checks, assessments, etc.) using adult learning principles incorporating current research, work instructions maintained by business units, and expertise of subject matter experts.
• Create content related to existing and future training topics.
• Create knowledge checks and assessment questions to evaluate understanding and application of concepts to evaluate skills knowledge, and the ability of participant to put concepts into practice.
• Create Pre-and Post-Training content and work with management to encourage the application of training concepts into their everyday work. Assess requirements, identify provider or develop material, and deliver or coordinate delivery by others, for the following training:
Management Development – Provide leadership and performance management training to supervisors and potential supervisors.
Employee Development – Create and facilitate training courses that expand the knowledge and skillsets of employees so they are better able to perform their jobs and/or achieve their career goals.
Business Ethics and Harassment Prevention- Create and facilitate annual training courses that are legally required for all employees to attend.
• Benchmark NuStar training and development programs against typical industry training and development programs on a routine basis to ensure programs meet or exceed industry practice.
• Develop computer-based training and Instructor Led training programs in the preferred NuStar format.
• Assist divisions, departments, and groups with their specific training and development needs.
• Identify and engage in self-development opportunities each year.
• Other duties as assigned.



B.A. or B.S. in Human Resources, Education, Training and Development or Organizational Development preferred or equivalent post-high school education and/or work-related experience. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of directly related professional experience required.
  • A self-directed leader who takes initiative, assists the team in reaching its vision and mission, and possesses a bias towards finding solutions to challenges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to complete lengthy and complex assignments on time.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and fill gaps in existing training as well as to anticipate and develop or coordinate training to compliment current initiatives.
  • Strong reasoning abilities, resourceful, well organized, uses sound judgment, and is attentive to detail.
  • Ability to effectively present information, work with, and respond to questions from all levels of the organization, as well as, vendors, contractors, business partners and the general public.
  • Stays abreast of new technology techniques and developments in the Training and Development field; and takes the initiative to introduce those offerings.
  • Ability to recognize and support the organization’s preferences and priorities.
  • Experience in Learning Management Systems required.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office products is a must.
  • Strong PowerPoint skills required.
  • Must be a team-oriented person with the flexibility to adapt in a fast moving and changing work environment.
  • 30% Travel will be required.
