Job Summary

The Training and Development Specialist is responsible for all stages of the Training Life Cycle to locations across the Company in order to facilitate the professional development and continuous learning of employees.

Essential Functions

  • Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”
  • Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.”
  • Assess the Company’s training needs and develop new training programs or modify existing programs, as necessary. 
  • Research, plan, design, and conduct various training programs across the Company to support the organization’s professional development needs.
  • Interview management and staff to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and to better understand changes in policies, procedures, business initiatives, and technologies associated with the training need. 
  • As part of training design, define the skillsets needed to perform different roles, conduct task analysis, determine gaps between current and desirable skill levels and translate that information into curriculum development and training. 
  • Design curriculum in alignment with current and new business initiatives and objectives and provide training solutions to address business needs.
  • Storyboard, design, and develop course and instructional materials, including instructor guides, participant workbooks, web content, quick reference guides, templates, manuals, visual aids, and exercises.
  • Determine instructional method(s) most appropriate for each situation, such as individual training, group instruction, demonstrations, computer-based training, or web-based training.
  • Develop a means of measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of training programs and learning outcomes
  • Provide consultative services to the organization regarding mentoring and other employee development needs.
  • Support and coach learners and act as a resource to them for follow-up questions after training.
  • Maintain appropriate records of training and development activities in the Learning Management System.
  • Perform other related duties, as directed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in training and development, as demonstrated by work samples or portfolio.
  • Bachelor's degree in Training and Development, Organizational Development, Vocational Education, Workforce Education, or other related area strongly preferred.  Equivalent job-related experience/knowledge if no degree.
  • Knowledge of adult learning techniques and various learning/training concepts and principles.
  • Ability to interact well with and provide training to all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills: excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Experience using various training delivery methods including conducting instructor-led courses and building computer-based training (CBT).  Live virtual training/facilitation experience is a plus.
  • Ability to research and gather content from multiple sources, translate and design into training materials.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Some Learning Management System administrator experience required.
  • Previous experience in construction, manufacturing or the oil/gas industry is a plus.
  • Operations and field experience are a plus.
  • Position requires occasional travel.
