Company History
Lakeshore Technical College traces its roots to 1911 when Wisconsin created a state-wide system of vocational schools to provide specialized training to adults. In 1912, the current Lakeshore district began taking shape when industrial/continuation schools opened along the state’s northeastern Lake Michigan shoreline in Manitowoc, Two Rivers, and Sheboygan. In 1967, the three schools officially combined establishing the Lakeshore Vocational, Technical, and Adult Education District.
The community voted in 1971 to construct a centrally located campus in Cleveland. Classes began at the Cleveland campus in 1974 and the college changed its name to Lakeshore Technical Institute. As the college evolved and began offering more advanced courses and associate of applied science degrees, the name changed again in 1988 to Lakeshore Technical College.
Since then, the college has grown into a national model of excellence as recognized by the Aspen Institute, Washington Monthly, Forbes, the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), the Bellwether College Consortium, Military Friendly, and WalletHub. In 2022 the college began offering Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, allowing students to complete the first two years of a liberal arts baccalaureate degree at the college.
In addition to the Cleveland campus, Lakeshore operates learning sites in the heart of Sheboygan and Manitowoc, and its School of Agriculture in Newton.
